ERI Diversity Equity and Inclusion Policy

Grounded in the mission and Charism of Blessed Edmund Rice and the Christian Brothers, ERI’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Policy demonstrates the organization’s commitment to advance a diverse and inclusive, that contributes to a sense of belonging where all persons are welcomed and celebrated.

Scope of the Policy

This policy applies to the following people:

  • ERI team members
  • ERI Youth Observers/Volunteer Interns
  • ERI Board of Directors;
  • Partner organisations. Observers/visitors accompanying an ERI activity.

Policy Statement

ERI acknowledges that equality is a human rights issue. This policy is based on the following principles:

  • ensuring that all staff and Board members have an understanding of equality issues and the principles outlined in this policy;
  • working with all people to improve quality of life;
  • respecting the values and cultures of the people ERI works with;
  • encouraging participation of all people, particularly marginalized groups, in all areas of ERI’s work;
  • recognising that the intersectionality of various aspects of one’s identity (including aspects such as gender, religion, caste, ability, and ethnicity) create unique experiences of discrimination and oppression

Policy in Practice

This policy will be embedded in ERI’s organisational culture and practice, and will therefore ensure that:

(a)  there is access for all people in ERI’s programs and activities;

(b)  Country Program Planning includes consideration of gender issues and gender is reflected in the implementation plans;

(c)  the different needs and priorities of all people, particularly marginalized groups, are identified when implementing its activities;

(d)  tools for examining access are used during planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of programs;

 (f)  relevant and correct information on its activities reflect ERI’s commitment to equality that influence changing attitudes and promote practices that combat exclusionary stereotypes

(g)  staff, Board, volunteer and partner capacity and knowledge in the area of equality is increased through education and training; and

(h)  a safe environment and family-friendly work practices that enable all people to participate fully in work and family life.

Monitoring and Review of Policy

This policy will be monitored and reviewed regularly by the ERI Board

Where compliance issues are identified, the Board chair and ERI Executive Director will work with staff and other relevant stakeholders to address these issues promptly.
