
ERI delivered and co-sponsored several statements in the recent session of the UN Human Rights Council.
A statement in response to the UN High Commissioner’s report on Myanmar was delivered by Brian Bond. Again the statement was made on behalf of ERI partners who feared reprisals if identified.
ERI also co-signed a joint statement re-affirming the importance of multi-lateralism that was delivered by one of our partners APGXXIII. The statement was particularly prompted by concerns about the US cancelling of foreign aid, its withdrawal from the UN Human Rights Council, the World Health Organisation, and the Paris Climate Agreement and the likliehood that President Trump will again withdrew the US from UNESCO as he did in 2017.
ERI also delivered a statement during the annual full day discussion on the rights of the child. The statement was prepared by Cormac McArt and read by Sue Cochrane. A statement on violence against children in India delivered by PRATYeK in response to the report of the Special Rapporteur on the Sale of Children was also co-signed by ERI.
